North Carolina takes a somewhat strict approach to most forms of gambling in the state. Only a few forms of gambling are allowed, and even those are subject to intense regulation. Relevant legislation can be found in state code 14-289, et seq. North Carolina, in recent years has more gambling arrests than most other states, and both players and operators could be placed into jail if they are caught often enough. The legislation is as follows:
Except as provided in Chapter 18C of the General Statutes or in Part 2 of this Article, any person or organization that operates any game of chance or any person who plays at or bets on any game of chance at which any money, property or other thing of value is bet, whether the same be in stake or not, shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.
The only allowed forms of gambling are those in the state lottery, tribal gambling and some forms of charitable gaming, although this is only limited to bingos and raffles.
Casinos and Live Poker
